How “Landing Pages” Can Make You Money E-mail
By Ron Erdos

This article will show you how to squeeze more money out of your website. First things first – let’s define “landing page” before we see how to use them to increase sales.

Definition of landing page: A landing page is the first page your visitor sees when they arrive at your site. It’s not always the home page (in fact, it’s usually not – most visitors arrive via internal pages).

So, back to the original topic - how can landing pages make more money for your site?

The short answer is by adding landing pages that directly address specific market segments.

For example, let’s say you sell laptop computers online. You already have a page for each product you sell, but you would like to make more sales.

Here’s what you do. Run an online advertising campaign. Different ads should address different market segments, for example:

-Cheap Laptop Computers

-Fast Delivery Laptops

-Extended Warranty Laptops

and so on (you obviously know your own business better than anyone). Next, work out which of these ads are getting the most clicks. Simply log in to find out. Let’s say “Fast Delivery Laptops” is getting the most clicks.

Finally, create a landing page addressing that specific market segment (ie people who want fast delivery on their laptops). The page should use the words “Fast Delivery” in the headline and in the first paragraph. For example:

Fast Delivery Laptops
We offer extremely fast delivery on all laptops sold at XYZ Computers.

Here are our best sellers:

What we are doing here is creating a page that specifically addresses the need of the user. You could just send them to your regular product page and hope that they find the words “fast delivery” amongst all the other benefits you offer. Or you could create a specific page for that market segment (people who need things delivered yesterday – there’s a few in every office) and address their needs where they can’t possibly miss it – in your headline and first paragraph.

Do you have to do this? No. Will it increase your conversions? Yes. If you take 20% of your online advertising budget and spend it on building new landing pages (and other on-site ways to improve sales), you will find yourself with a better return on your investment.
